Aja Savaria EP
Self Released
2022
Indian singing with Western electronic music production. The EP contains the highly danceable Aja Savaria - including 2 club remixes: one more geared towards the Ethnic House genre (Space Club Remix) and one Deep House version (Deep Club Remix). Then there's the lullaby Kajeria with its' sweet sounding melodies which are put in a modern hypnotic arrangement with lush synths, pulsating basses and chord progressions inspired by Weather Report.
This project is a collaboration between vocalist Samhita Mundkur and Ascension and started when the two met while staying in India attending an advanced yoga program at the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences in Coimbatore, also known as the Ashram of spiritual master Sadhguru. It turned out both Ascension and Samhita were living in the Netherlands so after attending the program, the two met to record 2 songs.
The first song Aja Savaria is based on a live studio jam by Ascension, which served as the basis for Samhita's beautiful melodies sung in Hindi language. The song tells the story of a couple who are longing to be together but they are separated by a great distance: 'Come to me my beloved, let me embrace you, your eyes are so full of love" are the words which are repeated over and over again like a mantra. The 9m song builds to a highly danceable combination of Eastern sounds, percussion and a string arrangement, ultimately ending in a psychedelic frenzy of tablas, arpeggiated bass lines and pulsating synth sounds.
Kajeria started out as a melody written by Samhita recorded over a simple drone. It was only after that the arrangement was built. The result is dreamy fusion of 2 different worlds coming together offering the listener a unique journey through ancient India and modern day music production.
